People who use their Bibles regularly know how much wear-and-tear they receive. A broken binding, torn pages, worn edgesall of these can result when a Bible isnt properly covered. But there are some of us who are not only looking to make our Bibles more durable but also more attractive. Fortunately, a Bible cover, even one decked out with lace, is easy and enjoyable to make, even for someone who doesn't sew often.

Instructions

Quilted fabric can make your cover more durable due to its thickness.

Open the fabric, printed side down, on a flat, clean surface. Lay the open Bible on top of the fabric, centered.

Lightly trace around the Bible with the chalk. Put the Bible to the side.

Measure 1 inch from the top and bottom tracing lines. Make two new lines with the chalk, leaving you with a 1-inch top and bottom margin. Measure 5 inches from the side tracing lines. Make two new side lines with the chalk, leaving you with 5-inch side margins.

Cut out the traced rectangle. Fold each side down -inch. You may glue these edges if you would like an extra-strong hold. Fold each side down another -inch, and pin with the straight pins. Using the threaded needle, sew in place.

Measure 4 inches from the left and right side. Fold each side over these 4 inches and, using the straight pins, pin in place.

Lace must be sewn on firmly to ensure that it will stay in place.

Flip the cover over so that the printed side faces up. Using the straight pins to hold the lace down, place the lace around the edges of the cover. Sew the lace in place using firm, small stitches.

Sew the top and bottom of each side, creating a pocket on the left and right. Carefully ease the cover of the Bible into the pockets.
