Scarves are fashionable and versatile accessories and can turn a casual outfit into one suited for work or dinner. Scarves can be found in an endless variety of colors, patterns and styles, so it's easy to find one that suits your personality and adds flair to any outfit. Once you start ti accumulate them it's important to know how to best fold them for storage and so you can see what you have.

Bias Fold

This is a basic folding technique for square scarves. First, place the scarf on a flat surface, wrong side up. Fold the top and bottom points to meet in the center. Fold in the ends until you reach the width you desire.

Half Loop

This style works best for a long, rectangular scarf. Fold the scarf into a square, then fold the square in half and place it around your neck. Next, take the loose ends and pull them through the loop that is formed by folding. Spread the corners of the scarf to show them off or neatly arrange them so they lay flat.

The Flip

This is a simple, retro style that looks great with vintage clothing. Fold a square scarf into a triangle. Place it on your shoulders and then flip one end over the other. Use a pretty brooch to secure the ends and keep it from coming apart.

Hobo Bag

This is a quick and easy way to make a small bag to carry a few necessities. Take the opposite corners of a square scarf and bring them together. Tie the ends and then do the same with the two remaining corners. You can slip a ring over the ends or carry it as is.

Ring Tie

This look calls for a scarf at least 24 inches long. If the scarf is a square, fold it in thirds to create a rectangle, then place it on your shoulders and bring the ends around and pull them through a ring to secure them.

Bohemian Look

Place the middle of a long, rectangular scarf on your throat so that the ends fall down your back. Take the left end of the scarf and bring it across your right shoulder. Take the right end of the scarf and bring it across your left shoulder. Allow the ends to hang down on your chest.

Adding Style

A scarf doesn't just have to go around your neck. Tie one on the handle of your purse to add a bit of color. Instead of an ugly luggage tag, tie a pretty scarf around your suitcase handle. Cinch a long scarf across your waist to add interest to a long sweater. You can even use a scarf as a belt for an extra-feminine look.
