How to Tie a Shemagh Around the Neck

A shemagh, also known as a keffiyeh, is a desert head wrap typically worn by men in the Middle East. A shemagh helps protects the wearer from sand and dust storms, high winds and the sun's rays. Outside the Middle East, shemaghs are worn by both men and women as a fashion accessory. In a fashion capacity, the shemagh is worn around the neck like a scarf. Shemaghs come in a variety of two-tone colors on woven, not printed, material.

Instructions

Open the shemagh and fold the top-left corner down until it reaches the lower-right hand corner. The shemagh will now look like a triangle.

Hold the triangle so that the long end is horizontal and the short, pointed end is facing down. Grasp the ends of the long side of the triangle, placing the middle of the triangle in front of the neck.

Wrap the right end of the triangle loosely around the back of the neck, working it around to the front. The fit should be loose, and the end should hang over the front of the left shoulder.

Wrap the left side of the triangle loosely around the back of the neck. Let the end hang over the right shoulder.
