How to Use Your Camera Case As a Purse

A camera case is sturdy, water resistant and chock full of pockets. It is designed to last and to take a beating, unlike many purses. With just a few easy modifications, you can turn a camera case into a unique and utilitarian handbag. By having the bag double as a purse and a camera case, you can make it functional for everyday use while still serving as a camera case when you need it.

Instructions

    1

Choose a camera case that will hold everything you want to carry. A tiny digital camera case will work for an evening out or a quick trip when all you need are a few items. A larger case, such as one for an SLR, works better for days when you need more than just a tube of lip gloss.

    2

Remove any padded inserts that are not sewn to the bag itself. This creates much more space inside the bag for your items. Save the inserts if you plan on using the bag as a camera case again.

    3

Add a strap if your case does not already have one. Use a strap from another purse or make one from fabric or ribbon. Check to see if the length is right for your look. Attach the new strap to the existing rings on the case or stitch it on with a strong needle and thread.

    4

Embellish the bag to your taste. Colorful fobs attached to a zipper pull add interest. A small scarf tied around the strap lends elegant flair. These subtle adornments distract from the fact that it is a camera case. Alternatively, embrace the purely utilitarian aspect of the camera case and wear it as is.

    5

Remove the logo if desired. Use a seam ripper for a sewn logo or a razor if it is glued on. If the logo leaves a less than attractive spot, cover it with a brooch. For a youthful look, use a patch to cover the spot.

    6

Fill the bag with all the things you need to carry such as credit cards and a cell phone. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, wear your new purse with confidence. Self-assuredness is the key to carrying off any look.
