How to Tell a Fake Coach

Coach handbags are popular and trendy. But these purses also carry a high price tag, which is why many fake Coach purses are manufactured and distributed each year. Many of these fake or "knock-off" purses are far cheaper than what can be found in department stores and many look convincing. But for those who have a discerning eye, a fake Coach can be spotted quickly among the authentic handbags.

Examine how the Coach "C" is laid out on the exterior of the purse. The Cs, which are the signature of the Coach brand, should line up in the center. Real Coach purses will have a design of two Cs next to each other in a double formation

Look at the letter on the purse closely. Coach purses will always use a "C." A different letter, such as "G" or "O" are used on many fake Coach handbags.

Check the dust bag that comes with the purse. An authentic Coach will typically come with a dark brown bag with a red drawstring. "COACH EST. 1941" will be written in white in the bottom right corner.

Examine the authenticity tag on the interior of the purse. The serial number will start with "No," followed by four numbers after the dash. The words directly above the serial number will be in English and written in caps.

Look at the logo tag that is attached to the exterior of the purse. Typically, this tag will be leather or plastic and match the trim of the purse. "Coach," which is printed on the tag, will be raised.

Check the seams of the purse. Real Coach purses will have excellent, straight and precise stitching. Poor, crooked and uneven stitching or glued seams signal a fake.

Touch the interior lining of the purse. Authentic Coach purses are lined with satin or cotton fabric. If a cotton fabric is used, the fabric will feel thicker. The interior fabric will contrast with the exterior color of the purse, with the exception of the classic design Coach purses. Research the style of Coach purse if in doubt.

Look at the zipper. Fake Coach purses will say "RTK".
