What Are Gradient Sunglasses?

Fashion is ever-changing and there is always something to be improved on for utility or visual appeal. Sunglasses serve both purposes. They are needed for general time spent outdoors, as well as protection from intense sunlight when driving a car, flying a plane or hiking. There are many styles and sizes to suit each person's face and style. Of these, gradient lenses have become the newest rage due to their multi-purpose.

Gradient lenses, as the name suggests, are darker to lighter within one frame. Usually the darker is at the top and the lightest shade, or clear, is at the bottom. The purpose of this is to provide different levels of protection from the sun as needed by the wearer. The gradients are available in multiple colors. Depending on the style of the frames, the common colors available are maroon, violet, black, gray, brown, blue or golden.

Neutral colors like brown, black and gray are the most popular for everyday use. When in a situation like driving or hiking, where a clear line of vision is necessary, these colors are the best to use. This is because the variation in natural color and lens color will not be drastically different, so a wearer can have better sight through any level of the gradient.

Maroon and violet are typically used in fashion environments, since the difference in colors compared to natural colors is vast. This allows for a person to coordinate with an outfit, or simply stand out in a crowd. The gradient still allows for clear vision when needed, but these colors are normally used in a social environment like a day at the beach or an evening at the clubs.

The difference in shades allows the wearer to see more clearly in a darker environment or have stronger protection from the sun. For example, if someone is hiking during the strong, direct light of a sunset, he can see straight ahead by looking through the darkest portion of the lens and still watch his step carefully in the shadows through the bottom, clear portion of the lens.
