Selling impostor merchandise is a very common scam, and is mostly, but certainly not always, seen at secondhand stores and in online shopping outlets. Sellers have become more up to date in their masking techniques, and frequently duplicate name brands like Juicy Couture, Gucci, and Cartier. However, despite more advanced methods of tricking customers, there are several identifying factors to use when determining if your merchandise is real or fake.

Check the pricing. While not fool-proof, it is helpful. Most Cartier glasses are priced in the $200 range. If your glasses are much less expensive than that, red flags should go up. Many merchandise scammers lower the prices of their products considerably in order to encourage faster turn-around profit. This is an important sign because a consumer may feel that they are getting a bargain on a name-brand product.
2Authenticate the serial number of the glasses. The serial number will be in gold print under the nose bridge, and should be difficult to read with the naked eye.
3Check the screws. Cartier uses only metal screws. Screws made of plastic or any other material except metal are a true sign of a fake.
