How to Sew Waist Cinchers

Waist cinchers, or corset belts, are one of the most diverse pieces of clothing a woman can have in her wardrobe. Versatile in style and shape, waist cinchers can be worn for a variety of different costumes for a Renaissance fair, Halloween, conventions or other costumed events. In addition to this, they can be worn with a simple T-shirt and jeans. While waist cinchers can be expensive to purchase, it is easy to make an inexpensive waist cincher at home.

Instructions

Measure the circumference of the waist. Cut out two pieces of upholstery fabric that are each 8 inches wide and just as long as the waist measurement.

Cut out a piece of fabric interfacing that is the same size as the two fabric pieces. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of one of the fabric pieces.

Lay the two fabric pieces directly on top of each other, right sides together, and sew them together all around the edges, leaving a 3 inch opening in the middle of one of the longer sides.

Turn the waist cincher right side out, using the 3 inch opening in the seam. Iron the waist cincher flat and sew the 3 inch opening closed.

Insert 5 eyelets into each of the shorter edges of the waist cincher, following the instructions on the eyelet package. Space the eyelets about 1 inch apart from each other.

Cut a piece of corset string that is 24 inches long and thread it through the eyelets of the waist cincher in a crisscross pattern.
