How to Tell a Fake From a Real Vera Bradley

Vera Bradley is a handbag and accessories brand which was started in 1985. It issues new ranges each year, ensuring its designs and patterns are always stylish and current. Due to the fame and success of the brand, there are many fakes available, of varying quality. Before you purchase a Vera Bradley handbag or accessory, it's worth following some steps to verify its authenticity.

Check on the official Vera Bradley website. This lists all current and retired designs. If the design you are considering is not listed, it is a fake bag.

View the price tag. Vera Bradley bags from the last three years have a green Vera price tag. Special editions and older bags may have a different colored price tag.

Assess the zipper pulls. On new bags, there is a ribbon with the Vera Bradley logo. The ribbon will be color coordinated with the bag. Check what color the ribbon should be online -- different patterns are given different ribbons, but all bags of the same design have the same ribbon color. Older bags have fabric zipper pulls, which have the Vera Bradley logo on them. The fabric should be the same fabric that the bag is made of.

Compare the bag to the bag on the Vera Bradley website. Every detail should be exact, or the bag is not authentic. Details such as the color of the inside fabric or pocket placement are often different on fake bags.

Make sure the bag comes with its accessories -- most bags come with a cardboard insert to help the bag keep its shape, and a key ring with the Vera Bradley logo on it. Fake bags often omit these accessories, as they are difficult to accurately reproduce.

Look at the price. If the bag is very cheap, it is not likely to be real. Vera Bradley is a well-loved brand, and even secondhand they can fetch high prices. New bags will not be sold for cheap. Look at prices at Vera Wang and other well-known retailers, and use these as your price guide.
