How to Tie a Head Turban

Called a pagri in India, turbans have traditionally been worn in parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, by both men and women. Depending upon the country and the purpose of the turban, it may be made of different kinds of materials and can range from plain to colorful. In some cultures, women tie their turbans in intricate patterns, but it can also be tied simply and still appear elegant. Whether you wish to wear a turban for practical purposes or as a fashion statement, it is relatively easy to tie.

Instructions

Lay your scarf flat, then fold it in half lengthwise to determine its center.

Place the scarf on your head and use the fold to center it. Position the scarf in front as you would like it to fit over your forehead once tied. The length of the scarf will fall in two ends down your back. Make sure the scarf is large enough to cover from your forehead to the bottom of your neck.

Pull the ends of the scarf over your ears so they are draped over your shoulders. Make sure they are equal length. Twist the ends so the scarf tightens around your ears. Grasp the ends in each hand and reach behind your head to cross them. Bring the ends back in front of your shoulders.

Grasp the ends and wrap them around your head once, then tie them in a knot off to one side of your head.

Tuck the ends on each side of the knot in the material on each side.
