How to Wear a Maang Tikka

A maang tikka is a beautiful, ornamental piece of jewelry that hangs from the forehead and is typically worn by Indian brides to accentuate the part in their hair. Maang tikkas most commonly come in gold and silver and are accentuated by gems like emerald and rubies, as well as pearls and Swarovski crystals. The maang is the stringed section that lays in the hair, and the tikka is the jeweled part that sits on the forehead. They can be quite heavy, so it is important to how to secure them.

Instructions

Make a straight part down the middle of your hair using a comb.

Create a simple bun by twisting your hair and making a coil. Secure the bun with bobby pins.

Lay the maang tikka in your hair so that the chain follows your part and the ornament hangs 1 to 2 inches from your hairline onto your forehead.

Put a bobby pin through the hook in the end of the maang tikka, and then secure it to your hair in the back.

Secure the maang tikka in the front with bobby pins, but make sure the pins do not show.

Use hairspray to hold your style in place.
