How to Tie an African American Wrapping Scarf

African-American women wear headpieces, head wraps and headgear for a number of reasons, one of which is to look stylish. The African head wrap, or the African-American head wrap, can be tied in a number of ways. There is no single, correct way to tie it -- you can use your own preferences to create a head wrap that suits your personality. The basic method of tying an African-American head wrap for any woman is simple and it allows for creativity in tying it.

Instructions

Fold your headpiece so that it is approximately six inches wide. Place the wrap on top of your head wrapping it toward the back of your head underneath your hair. Leave the right side approximately one and a half times the length of the left side.

Bring both ends of the scarf underneath your hair and wrap them around one another; bring both ends of the scarf out around your shoulders. Pull the ends to achieve a tightness that is comfortable to you.

Tie the back of the knot like a bow and twist it so it is around to the side of your head, on top of your head or leave it where it along the back of your head. Spray starch on the headwrap to keep it looking fresh and crisp.
