Things to Make With Men's Ties

Raid your closet, check out garage sales and second hand shops and find a new use for those old and unwanted ties. Use ties as fashion accessories, make an entirely new piece of clothing or give a bold new look to an existing wardrobe staple. Keep leftover scraps in a bag for future craft projects.

Neck Scarf

Undo the knot from the tie and then lay it flat. Placing the tie on a flat surface lets you see the full length and remove the wrinkles. Pick it up and wrap it around your neck like a scarf. Adjust the length by using a pencil or crafting marker to make a mark on the tie so you will know where to cut if you need to make it shorter. Cut at the mark and hem any edge to keep a fine line. A tie makes an elegant scarf that can be paired with a fresh white blouse, a crisp new blazer or an always timeless wrap dress.

Accessories

Use the tie as a headband or a hair bow. Pull your hair back with the tie -- or knot the tie under your bun or ponytail -- and wrap it around your head, as a hair band. Alternatively, use in its original state and weave it through your jeans or dress pant loops as a belt. A tie can also be tied around a dress and act as a belt, even if there are no hoops on the dress.

Skirt

Sew an assortment of ties together for a funky skirt. Add a zipper to the side, attached to two ties, and tailor accordingly. The skirt can be lengthened through the addition of other ties or also by adding material, in the style of a border or trim, to the edge of the skirt.

Faux Liner for Blazer

Give your favorite blazer a fresh new look by lining it with color. Cut the tie open lengthwise. Cover the first two inches of the inside of your blazer with the silky tie fabric. Roll up your blazer sleeves for a fashionable pop of color. Use other parts of the tie in the suit pocket as a faux handkerchief.
