Make Your Own Belly Dancers Weight Belt

There are several advantages to making your own weight belt for your belly dancing costume as opposed to buying one. It is usually cheaper to make the belt than to buy it. You can custom design the color and style of the weight belt to match the rest of your costume. Amd handmade belts almost always fit better than ones that are purchased off the rack.

Instructions

Choose a material that coordinates with the rest of your belly dancing costume. The material should be gauzy and brightly colored. Make sure the material is washable and some type of sequined material that is 4-inches wide. The second type of material you will need is called Mylar fringe and will be 9-inches wide.

Measure your hips to determine how long the material you use for your weight belt will be. Make sure you add a minimum of six inches that will be used to tie your belt.

Sew the sequined material to the middle of your Mylar material. If you want a belt that is even flashier or one that makes noise, you can add some fake coins that will jingle as you shake your hips.

Wrap your handmade belt around your waist and start dancing.
