How to Spot Fake Coach Eyewear

Compared to other designer labels, Coach is a relatively recent name. Six artisans founded Coach in 1941 in a loft in Manhattan. They created distinctive, high quality leather goods by hand. Word spread quickly about them and the company eventually expanded. According to the official Coach website, "Coach continues to maintain the highest standards for materials and workmanship." As a result, imitators produce fake Coach bags and accessories, of dubious levels of quality. When it comes to sunglasses, there are telltale signs to spot fakes.

Unfold the stems of the sunglasses and look for the Coach logo on the inside of the arms. Authentic Coach sunglasses will always include the logo.

Examine the logo. Make sure it isn't crooked or misspelled. Scratch the logo with your fingernail very gently. The logo on fake Coach sunglasses will start to scratch or flake off.

Look for the style code on the inside of the arms. Usually the code will be the letter "s" and then three numbers. Some fakes don't have this number or sometimes imitators will make up a bogus number. Write down the style number and check it on the Coach website to see if it is legitimate.

Fold and unfold the sunglasses repeatedly. The hinges should open and close smoothly without any wobbling. Hold the sunglasses by the bridge, the arc that goes above the nose, and shake them gently. The lenses shouldn't rattle in the frames and the stems should not shake. They should emit no sound at all.

Look at the case. The case should have the Coach logo embossed on the front and lined with fabric on the inside. Fakes often do not come with a case, but instead have a clear plastic bag or a small fabric drawstring bag.
