How to Wrap a Shawl Around Your Shoulders

A cloth, knit or crocheted shawl is a decorative and functional fashion accessory. Shawls are for every age group to enjoy. The shawl can be worn with work, casual or formal clothing. A bride can add a soft cashmere, pashmina, lace or satin shawl to her accessories when she wears an elegant gown. You can easily wrap a square or rectangular shawl around your shoulders. The shawl can be worn loosely, or you can secure it with a decorative brooch.

Instructions

Crocheted or knit shawls can be made from cotton thread or yarn.

Fold the shawl into a triangular shape. If the shawl is less that 20 inches wide you can maintain its rectangular shape.

Wrap the shawl around your shoulders at the back of your neck.

Drape the ends of the shawl over the inside of your arms at the elbow.

Let the ends freely hang down the front of your clothing for a decorative effect. This looks particularly elegant with a sleeveless dress or gown.

Pin a brooch to the point where the shawl joins over your bodice or drape one end over your shoulder and fasten the large pin there. This streamlined keeps your upper body warm.

Tie the shawl ends together loosely over the bodice or let the ends hang in the front to keep your arms free for an evening walk or outdoor event. This will work for dresses, suits and casual clothing.

Drape the rectangular folded shawl around your shoulders with one end hanging over your back. Secure the shawl with a brooch or kilt pin.
