How to Tie a Hair Scarf

The use of hair scarves dates as far back as ancient Rome, according to Scarftips.com. The Romans wore scarves to keep themselves clean and perspiration-free on hot days and also to protect themselves from elements of the deserts. Through the years, hair scarves have become en vogue with women, whether they are used to spice up a hairdo or keep hair out of the eyes. There are many ways to wear a hair scarf but simply tying the scarf in a knot or a bow will keep the look chic and classic.

Instructions

Fold wider scarves in half several times until it is about three inches in width.

Put your hair into a ponytail by using a hair tie. This will help to make sure that all of your hair lies over the scarf.

Pull the bottom layer of hair up and secure with bobby pins if the hair is too short to fit into a ponytail.

Put the middle of the scarf on top of your head (about one inch behind the hair line).

Arrange your bangs (if you have any) the way you normally wear them.

Bring the ends of the scarf down over your ears, pulling snugly but not too tightly. You don't want to pull too tight because the scarf will pop right off.

Tie the scarf in a knot at the nape of your neck. For a different look, tie the scarf into a loose bow on the side of the nape of your neck, just under your ear.

Leave the scarf over your ears or tuck it behind. Remove the hair tie so your hair falls down over the back of the scarf.
