How to Tie a Shawl Scarf

A shawl scarf is a lovely accessory, perfect for keeping warm on a cool afternoon or adding style to your wardrobe. When you are not wearing it around your arms for warmth, you can style it in a chic tie at your shoulders, waist or neck. A beautifully tied shawl scarf looks nice with a pantsuit or with a dress or skirt. Experiment with different textures, from luxurious silk to polished cotton. Choose a solid color or one with an intriguing pattern. Practice tying your shawl scarf different ways until you get the results you are looking for.

Instructions

Fold the scarf diagonally, making a triangle.

Smooth out the wrinkles. Use an iron with warm setting to get a crisp edge.

Lay the scarf on your back grasping the two ends with each hand.

Bring the two ends together, wrapping the shoulders, cinching the two ends on your chest. Fold the right end over the left end. The left will now be on the right side. Pull this end up and over the fold.

Cinch the two ends together, tightening the shawl scarf. Make a loop with the ends and slide the right piece up through the loop, making a knot.

Fold the shawl diagonally, making a triangle.

Place the two ends behind you and the triangle in the front on your chest.

Cross the two ends behind you and bring them to the front around your neck. Keep the fabric loose to create a draped look.

Tie the two ends together in a simple knot. Tuck the knot under the shawl or lay it smooth on top.
