Instructions for Making Reversible Handbags

A purse could be the indispensible accessory. From a large handbag for everyday use, to a small handbag for evenings out, to different fabrics, to different hardware, to solid colors or patterns, it could be very easy to start a handbag collection. One way to achieve multiple looks is by creating a reversible handbag.

Instructions

Download and print a reversible handbag template. Martha Stewart's website offers an easy and stylish design. Enlarge the template onto the heavy paper to your desired size. Cut the template out twice from each of the fabrics.

Pin the two pieces of the solid colored fabric together with the right sides facing. Repeat this step with the patterned fabric pieces.

Sew along the top of each handle, as well as along the bottom curve of each of the pinned pieces. Leave the sides of the handles open to allow for turning. Use a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Turn the solid pinned piece right side out. Also, turn the patterned pinned piece right side out. Insert the solid piece into the patterned piece through the side openings. Be sure to line up all of the seams, raw edges and handles.

Pin the edges of the purses "neckline" together and stitch. Use a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Turn the entire piece right side out, making the patterned fabric on the outside. Press all of the seams with a hot iron.

Fold in the raw edges along the sides of the bag and baste together with a needle and thread.

Topstitch 1/8 inch around the bag handles.
