Just as living flowers can brighten a room, felt flowers can brighten a variety of accessories. Luckily, felt flowers are easy to come by. Whether they are homemade from circular cuts of felt, or purchased from a craft store or website, felt flowers are easy to apply to many accessories using super glue or fabric glue.
Headbands
Purchase a plain headband, which can be easily found at your local drugstore or superstore. Headbands cost, on average, about $2 each as of September 2011. Felt flowers are great to personalize these basic headbands; use a glue gun to glue the flowers to the headband. Be sure to leave enough open space along the sides so the flowers do not bump into the wearer's ears. Also make sure to overlap the flowers across the band, so that the band is not visible.
Hats
A wool flapper cap can be part of a feminine and chic look with the addition of a few strategically placed felt flowers. The felt of the flowers balances well with the wool material of the cap. Glue one or two felt flowers of a complimentary color along the brim of the hat. Fewer is better in this craft -- too many flowers could make the hat chaotic and gaudy.
Belt
In the beginning of the 21st century, non-buckle belts have been a trend in women's fashion. The belts are made from pieces of fabric and tied at the waist. A felt flower belt would be a great way to dress up a plain summer dress. Purchase a sturdy piece of fabric, such as heavy polyester, from a craft store. Cut this fabric into a piece long enough to tie around the waist and about two inches thick. Using a glue gun, glue the felt flowers to a portion or all of the belt, being careful to overlap so the band does not show through. No flowers should be adhered to the ends of the belt that need to be tied.
Leis
It is a Hawaiian tradition to offer a lei, a garland of flowers, to all visitors. Rather than a garland that will wilt, it would be a fun surprise to offer guests a garland of felt flowers to have as a keepsake. Using a string, loop together a necklace of felt flowers, preferably pink, white or red (similar to colors of leis in Hawaii). This lei is a fun party favor or accessory to a Halloween costume.
