How to Repair Bras

Your bra can suffer from a lot of wear and tear throughout the day and in the wash. Often the clasp can break, the bow can become detached or the padding in the cups can get folded or deformed. This is why washing instructions on bras usually suggest that you hand wash the lingerie. If you do need to do repairs, there are a few ways that you can fix your bra.

Instructions

Fixing a Bent Hook Closure

    1

Flatten the wire by using needle-nose pliers. Ensure that the three wires of the hook are parallel to each other.

    2

Bend the hook back into shape using the pliers. Leave a space between the hook and the bra itself.

    3

Fasten the closure to test the hook. If it does not line up with the eye, bend out the hook using the pliers until it fits inside the eye.

Fixing a Detached Bow

    4

Insert the threaded needle on the back side of the front of the bra at its midpoint. Prick the fabric of the bra and the bow with the needle.

    5

Turn the needle around and insert it back into the same place. Repeat the stitch three times and make a knot and cut the thread on the inside of the bra.

    6

Give the bow a gentle pull to ensure its placement is properly secured.

Fixing Padding in a Bra

    7

Cut a 1-1/2 to 2 inch slit in the interior fabric of the bra, along one of the seams of the cup to gain access to the padding. Do not cut the bra all the way through the front.

    8

Slide your thumb and index finger into the hole you cut. Take hold of the padding of the bra. Unfold it using your fingers and move it back into place.

    9

Try wearing the bra to ensure the padding now fits and looks appropriate.

    10

Remove the bra. Using a needle and a thread that matches the color of the bra, sew the slit closed.
