How to Pin Silk Shawls

Silk is a luxurious and delicate fabric that can be damaged quite easily if you don't understand how to care for it. Your shawl is likely to be a pashmina-silk, a brocaded silk or a silk charmeuse, as these are the classic fabrics for silk shawls.

Drape your shawl in the manner that you wish to wear it. You may want to play with this a bit until you find the drape that looks the best, slides the least and doesn't greatly interfere with your range of motion.

Identify the point on your shoulder or chest at which you wish to pin the shawl. You may make this decision based purely on function. For instance, if you pin the shawl at the shoulder, you may find that it doesn't slip from its place as you move. Conversely, you may choose to pin a pretty brooch where it has better visibility.
