How to Tie Shawls

Shawls serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Since they come in a variety of different colors and designs, they make chic accessories. They can also be thick and soft, helping to keep you warm in the winter months. There are a variety of different ways to tie a shawl. Some ties are more appropriate for formal wear whereas some shawl ties are more fitting to casual, daytime attire. Regardless of how you tie it, a shawl adds sophistication and fashion-sense to any outfit.

Instructions

Fold the shawl in half diagonally, making a large triangle out of the shawl.

Drape the shawl over your back. One point should hang down your back, and the other two points wrap around your shoulders to meet in the front.

Tie the front ends in a loose knot, forming a poncho with the shawl.

Use a shawl pin or brooch to secure the ends together, if you don't wish to knot them. A pin or brooch can add extra elegance to the look.

Fold the shawl in half, making a rectangular shape.

Place the folded shawl around your neck. Since it is folded in half, the loop should hang over one shoulder and the two ends over the other shoulder.

Take the shawl ends and pull them through the loop.

Pull the ends gently to move the shawl closer to your neck. You now have a chic, ascot-style shawl tie.

Drape the shawl over your shoulders. It should fully cover your upper back and shoulders.

Wrap the shawl ends around your upper arms.

Bring the shawl ends behind your back and knot them loosely. You now have an elegant look that will keep you warm.
