How to Resize an Expandable Watch Band

An expandable watchband is constructed just like a standard pin-and-link watchband but the links are built with hinged parts that make the band function as if it's elastic. This means that you can resize an expandable watchband by adding in expandable links or removing some of the existing ones just like you would for a regular band. You don't need any special tools; just make sure you have plenty of light at your work space.

Instructions

Place the tip of a punch into the concave end of the pin you want to remove. You need to remove the pin above the link that needs to come out.

Push the pin until it starts to come out the other side of the link. Try to keep the punch and the watchband straight.

Draw the pin out the rest of the way from the band using pliers. Do not grip too tightly onto the pin or you will mar it.

Remove the pin from the next link down in order to reduce the band by one link. Remove as many links as you need to in order to make the band the correct size.

Fit extra links into the gap in the band you made by removing the first pin. This will increase the band size.

Close the band when it is the correct size. Make sure all of the links are aligned with each other.

Place a pin into each of the links that are not attached. You can get the pin into place by gently tapping it with a small mallet.
