Things to Do With Scarfs

Scarves are a fashion accessory that most women own at least one or two of. Scarves are a stylish neck fashion accessory but they have several other purposes around the house and with your outfits. Silk scarves are the most versatile because the fabric is light and flowing; therefore it can be tied, knotted or wrapped easier than scarves made of thicker material. Rather than let a scarf sit in your closet for months in between the warm and cold seasons, give it some use in other ways.

A scarf can be used as a hair accessory for both long and short hair styles. Tie a scarf around the crown of the head to use as a headband. Take a blast into the past and tie a scarf tied around a pony tail. A scarf can be used as a decorative hair band that ties just behind the ear as well. On cooler days, use a scarf as a head wrap like the old Hollywood films and tie it loosely in the front under your chin. Use a scarf in place of a leather belt to hold up skirts, pants or shorts.

Though you could take several old scarves and turn them into a set of nice drapes, it is better to use a scarf loosely in a drapery setting so that it can be used elsewhere when it grows out of style. Try tying drapes back using old scarves that match the drapes. Use a longer scarf as a window valance by draping it over the top of a curtain rod.

An old scarf can be used around the house as a decoration as well. Stretch a colorful scarf around a piece of canvas, frame it and place it up on the wall as a piece of artwork. For your table setting you can wrap vases with colorful scarves or use a longer scarf as a table runner.

There are numerous sewing projects that can be created from the use of an old scarf. Take several scarves and sew them together with thicker fabrics to create throw pillows for bedrooms and couches. If you have several old scarves that you no longer wear you can piece them together and sew a quilt or blanket to use in your home or give away as a gift.
