Wearing a Hawaiian Sarong

Nothing looks more glamorous on the beach than a Hawaiian sarong. Just throwing one around your hip dresses up your bathing suit and can hide any little imperfections you might be conscious of. Not just for beaches though, Hawaiian sarongs can be worn to many events throughout the summer if you want that exotic island look. Follow these instructions to wear your sarong in three different styles, to go from day to evening, and casual to classy.

Instructions

Put your sarong behind your back, vertically, holding the a top corner in each of your hands. Make sure that there is an equal amount of fabric on either side of you.

Bring your left hand forward while still grasping the corner, raising your left elbow so that the sarong can settle into your armpit. Bring the corner in your left hand across your chest. Hold the corner over your right breast or under your right armpit, depending on how long it is on you.

Bring your right hand forward while still grasping the corner, raising your right elbow so that the sarong can settle into your armpit. Bring the corner in your right hand, across your chest. Lay it over the first layer that you are still holding with your left hand.

Pull it taut and tuck the top corner in over the edge, right above your left breast.

Hold the sarong the way you would to start a basic wrap so that it is behind you, held vertically and with the top corner in each hand.

Bring both arms forward. Raise your elbows so that the sarong goes under your armpits. Hold the two top corners out in front of you.

Carefully, switch hands to crisscross the sarong in front of you. Place the right top corner in your left hand, and the left top corner in your right hand.

Bring the corners (still crisscrossed) up behind your neck. Tie like a halter top. Twist the corners of the sarong if you like to make the "neck straps" more stylish.

Decide how long you would like your sarong. You can fold it over vertically, to have a shorter sarong, or you can fold over opposing corners, like a diaper fold, for a nice vertical line. Of course, you can wrap it around you without folding it for a dramatic, evening-gown-length look.

Hold your sarong behind you, folded if you like, with the ends in each hand. Bring your left hand across your body until both hands meet. Pull the fabric taut.

Make a knot with the ends, on the front part of your hip, so that the ends fall slightly over the front of your right thigh, rather than sticking out of your side.
