How to Wear a Scarf Like a Shawl

Scarves are one of the most versatile and eye-catching wardrobe accessories available. They can also turn a bland outfit into something grand. One of the many ways they can be worn is in the manner of a shawl. All you need is a fancy pin to keep your scarf in place and a few simple steps to guide you through the process.

Instructions

Lay the scarf flat. Place the scarf on the floor with the decorative side you want showing face up.

Fold if necessary. Place the scarf with the decorative side face down on the floor and fold as desired. Large, square scarves should be folded in half diagonally to create a large triangular shape. Extremely wide scarves may be folded lengthwise to make their width a bit narrower.

Drape the scarf over your shoulders. Carefully pick up the scarf with each hand at top of the scarf. Swing the scarf around the back of your shoulders, keeping the decorative side held outward.

Secure in place. Finish off the look by pinning the scarf with a decorative brooch or pin. You can place the pin in the center, right near your breastbone, or place the pin on one shoulder with the opposite edge of the scarf draped upward to meet the pin.
