How to Remove Ink From a Leather Wallet

No matter how careful you try to be, an ink pen can leak, lose its cap or have the clicker depressed while in your purse, and then everything in its path is at risk for an ink stain. Because wallets are one of the largest items in a purse, they may get the brunt of an ink pen more often than other items. When removing ink from a leather wallet, it is important to use the right cleaners in the right manner, or you may permanently stain the wallet.

Instructions

Wipe the wallet with a damp sponge to remove dust and dirt. Dry the wallet with a soft cloth.

Spray a couple of squirts of hairspray on a paper towel and blot the ink stain to lift it from the wallet. Do not rub the ink or you will spread the stain. Repeat the process as many times as necessary.

Treat the wallet with a leather conditioner to prevent the leather from drying and cracking due to the hairspray.

Gently buff the stain with fine-grit sandpaper. Be careful not to press too hard or you will sand down the fibers of the fabric.

Wet a soft-bristled toothbrush with white vinegar and brush the stain. Allow the vinegar to dry completely.

Brush the wallet with a suede brush to bring up the flattened nap.
