Women's styles of underwear are as varied as the women wearing them. Underwear, from a design perspective, has made leaps and bounds over the years, in terms of comfort and wearability. And not all underwear is created equal, with styles differing by activity, time of day and the rest of your outfit.
Briefs
The classic briefs-style underwear is the closest to its male counterpart as it gets. There is usually quite a bit of fabric and the legs are cut straight across. Typically, the waistline can brush just under the belly button or go lower, depending on the style. Briefs are usually worn during the day, and they are often worn during athletic activities like running or playing tennis. Hipsters are a variant of briefs that are worn at the hips, rather than at the waist.
Bikini
The bikini-style underwear was designed to be more flattering to a woman's body. There is less fabric, and the legs are usually cut much higher to expose more of the upper thigh, which elongates the leg. The bikini-style underwear is like the bottom of a bikini bathing suit, and it comes in a variety of styles. A lace bikini might be worn out on a date or with a sexy camisole for a meet-up under the sheets.
Thong
Thong underwear, which was originally introduced in Brazil, hit the nation by storm. It is considered one of the most popular styles of women's underwear because it is both comfortable and flattering -- no more panty lines. The thong is designed to have no fabric on the back side, and it is usually held together by thin strings. A G-string is a variant of the thong with almost no rear coverage.
