How to Wear Trendy Scarves

One of the most fashionable looks right now is the addition of a scarf to an outfit. No longer reserved for winter only, scarves have made their way into spring and summer fashion as a must-have accessory. The new, trendy scarves are made of light, gauzy material that makes them more fashionable than functional, and they come in bright colors and prints that can add a pop of style to an otherwise ordinary outfit.

Instructions

Select a color for you scarf based on the outfit you plan to wear. Is your ensemble neutral, or does it have a lot of bright colors and prints? If it is neutral, pick a scarf in a bright tone to add some color and interest. For example, pair an all-black outfit with a bright fuchsia or red scarf. With an outfit that already has a lot of color, go for a tan or beige tone scarf. You can also pick complementary colors, such as a yellow or orange scarf, to complement a purple top.

Select a texture and material for your scarf. For example, if it is summer, select a cotton, jersey knit or light-gauze scarf. Popular prints and textures include lace, patchwork or animal prints. For fall and winter, pick heavier materials like merino wool or cashmere.

Wear the scarf open with both ends hanging down each side of the neck if you have a necklace that you still want to display while wearing your scarf. Place the scarf behind your neck and wrap each end around your neck once. This will leave two ends on each side with your necklace still visible. For a variation on this look, tie these two ends together.

Wear the scarf looped around your neck if you prefer a more classy and sophisticated look. Put the two scarf ends together so that it is folded once. Place the folded scarf behind your neck and bring both ends forward. Pull the loose ends through the loop you created when you folded the scarf, and tighten the scarf to a comfortable fit.
