How to Replace a Nose Pad

Nose pads make eyeglasses sit more comfortably on an eyeglass wearer's nose. Some nose pads are attached to glasses with screws while others simply snap into place. While nose pads can wear out over time, or become loose and fall from the spectacles, installing new nose pads of either type is a simple process. You can purchase new nose pads and eyeglass repair kits at drug stores, optical stores and from online merchants.

Instructions

    1

Lay a light cloth on a flat work surface. The cloth will stop any of the small pieces of the eyeglasses from rolling away. A light color also makes seeing the dark colored pieces much easier.

    2

Unscrew the small nose pad connecting screws using a jeweler's screwdriver, which is a tiny flat head screwdriver that is included in most eyeglass repair kits. Turn the screws slowly in a counterclockwise direction. Turning too fast can strip the screw. If the nose pad does not have connecting screws, skip this step.

    3

Remove the old nose pads and insert the new nose pads into the metal brackets. Some of the new versions simply snap into the nose pad frame, while others must be screwed into place with the connecting screws. If so, use the jeweler's screwdriver to turn the screw in a clockwise direction. Tighten the screw until it is tight. Do not over tighten as this can break the nose pad.

    4

Adjust the nose pads so they sit comfortably on the nose. Simply push against the nose pad with your finger to bend the metal frame.
