How to Thread a Corset

Corsets are garments that are threaded tightly to dramatically cinch the waist, lift the bust and enhance the female shape. Historically, corsets were worn to help distribute the weight of heavy gowns. They were laced tight and often left women little room to breathe. Today, corsets are designed to comfortably provide the visual effects of a curvy figure and good posture. Corsets are only threaded, or laced, once so they must only be fastened in the front and tightened each time they're worn.

Instructions

    1

Fold your lace in half to find the middle.

    2

Count the holes in the corset to find the middle point. This is where you'll make the tightening laces during lacing.

    3

Open the back of the corset approximately eight inches and place the center of the lace in between the top two lacing holes.

    4

Pull the lace from the inside of the corset outward and thread it downward, crossing back and forth to form an "X" pattern until you get to the middle two holes of the corset. Do not pull the sides of the corset together while lacing it; leave at least at eight-inch opening at all times.

    5

Pull the ends of the laces through the holes completely and make sure they're equal in length. Adjust as necessary.

    6

Insert the ends of the laces through the next hole down and pull the laces inside the corset just enough to form two large loops on either side of the middle of the corset. You should have approximately two feet of lace looped out on each side. These loops will be used to tighten the corset.

    7

Continue threading the remaining lace down to the bottom of the corset.

    8

Tie the laces together in a bow or tie knots in each end of the lace large enough to prevent it from slipping back through the holes.
