How to Wear a Knitted Scarf

The long knitted scarf you received as a gift is beautiful but you aren't sure how to wear it. These popular fashion accessories are not only practical and functional, keeping you warm and cozy during winter months, but they can also upgrade the sophistication of your look or pare down the look to casual, working perfectly with jeans. A bright colored scarf adds a pop of color and excitement to the look of a simple winter coat and brightens the complexion. Wearing a knitted scarf is an excellent way to tie an outfit together.

Instructions

    1

Fold a long, chunky scarf in two. Holding the folded edge in one hand and the loose ends in the other hand, drape the scarf around the back of your neck so the folded end and two loose ends are hanging down over your chest area on either side of your neck. Open the fold and thread the two loose ends through it, pulling the loose ends to tighten the scarf to the desired look.

    2

Drape a knitted scarf around the front of your neck, letting the scarf ends hang down your back on either side of your neck. Criss-cross the ends in the back and bring them back over the shoulders so the ends hang down in front of your body. Center the scarf on your neck so the ends are even.

    3

Drape the scarf around the neck and tie it loosely in front of the chest area. Flatten out the knot and scarf ends. Scrunch the scarf around the neck area to simulate a turtleneck for a dressier look.

    4

Tie a knot in one end of the scarf. Push the other loose end through the knot and slide the knot up or down, depending on the desired look. The knot positioned closer to the neck keeps the neck warm.

    5

Tie a knot in each end of the knitted scarf. Drape it around your neck and let the two knotted ends hang loosely down the front of the body. This works well with heavy coats.

    6

Tie a knot in each end of the knitted scarf. Drape it around your neck and let the two knotted ends hang loosely down the front of the body. Grasp one of the scarf ends and flip it over the opposite shoulder so it is hanging down your back.

    7

Drape the scarf over your head, centering it on the top of your head. Loosely flip each scarf end over the opposite shoulder so that the ends are hanging in back of your body. This creates a portable hood-like head covering that not only keeps your head and neck warm but also pairs well with coats.

    8

Wear your knitted scarf with mid-weight or heavy sweaters and jeans to give your outfit a balanced look. A tailored coat or jacket pairs well with a chunky knitted scarf.

    9

Wear a neutral color when in doubt. Choosing a neutral color for a knitted scarf ensures it will look good with just about everything.
