How to Tie a Long, Thick Wool Scarf

A thick wool scarf makes a bulky but warm accent for a winter outfit; however, the garments thickness limits your tying options. Leaving a long scarf dangling can create a tripping hazard and diminish your body warmth. Try a few simple tying techniques and wear this wool accessory safely and stylishly. Before wearing your scarf, launder it with fabric softener to make it feel softer and cozier around your neck. Brace yourself for cold temperatures by cinching your scarf with an attractive tie before you leave the house.

Instructions

Fold the scarf in half to shorten it. Smooth the fabric with your hands.

Center the scarf at the back of your neck, positioning the folded end on one side and the two ends on the other.

Slip the two ends through the folded end. Adjust the scarf's knot for comfort by loosening and tightening the neck knot.

Place the center of the scarf on the back of your neck. You should have equal length on each side. Bring the two sides to the front.

Take the left scarf panel and pass it under the right scarf panel.

Bring the left panel to the front. Pass the left panel through the right to create a knot.

Adjust the neck knot, leaving the two ends at equal lengths. Leave the scarf to dangle down.
